New Impossibly Tiny Landscapes Painted on Food by Hasan Kale
Akin to an eagle
how Kalinga women are tough, proud, and dance like a soaring eagle who looks down on earth.
by caves where never sun has shone, by streams that never find the sea.
“According to Greek mythology, humans were originally created with four arms, four legs, and a head with two faces. Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate beings condemning them to spend their lives in search for their other halves.”
~Plato’s The Symposium.
How many times will I reblog this? “Always.”
We did it at school. The myth also says that the pairings could be male/female, male/male or female/female (just sayin’)
sometimes you don’t need to find someone else
I love Plato’s Symposium - it was one of the readings at my wedding (and I recognised the comic instantly as an illustration of the actual text - am loving this cartoon version of the story).
And yes it does indeed say the pairings could be male/male, female/female and male/female: “Human beings each had two sets of arms, two sets of legs, and two faces looking in opposite directions. There were three sexes then: one comprised of two men called the children of the Sun, one made of two women called the children of the Earth, and a third made of a man and a woman, called the children of the Moon. Due to the power and might of these original humans, the Gods began to fear that their reign might be threatened. They sought for a way to end the humans’ insolence without destroying them. It was at this point that Zeus divided the humans in half. After the division the two parts of each desiring their other half, came together, and throwing their arms about one another, entwined in mutual embraces, longing to grow into one.”
But that last comment is quite correct, even though I don’t think it was ever in the text itself - sometimes you don’t need to find someone else.
please tell me i wasn’t the only one who found this hilarious as hell
THIS TOOK A FAR DIFFERENT TURN THEN I EXPECTED
